Mourinho lauds United fans but still hopeful over Rooney transfer

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has heaped praise on the Manchester United fans for backing Wayne Rooney during the transfer saga but remains hopeful of signing him in the final days of the transfer window.

The Blues have had both their bids rejected by United but Mourinho is still considering a third offer for the 27 year old before the transfer window draws its curtains. The Manchester United manager has been clear about the club's stance over the striker's transfer status and have rebuffed every advance from the Blues this summer.

The England international started against the Blues last night and was one of the top performers for the Red Devils in the goalless draw.

Mourinho told Sky Sports: "First, we have to speak.

"I think this club must be a very special club because at any club in the world when a player wants to leave, they don't support him. When a player wants to leave, they give him a hard time, but they support him all the way.

"I think this a special club, with special fans, and if he makes that decision, we will be the first to respect that and to say it is over."

The Portuguese admitted that the club would consider a third offer if Rooney expresses his desire to leave Old trafford.

He told Sky Sports: "First, we have to speak.
