Fiorentina deny last minute Cesar bid

Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade has denied rumors that the club made a last minute bid for Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Julio Cesar this summer's transfer window.

The Brazil international was reported to be on the verge of leaving QPR this summer with Arsenal also interested in his services. However, the Londoners failed to meet his wage demands and the deal fell through.

There have also been reports that Cesar turned down an offer from the Serie A club but Fiorentina categorically denied making any advances this summer.

"We were never rejected by Julio Cesar because we never contacted Julio Cesar," Prade told La Nazione.

"For two reasons - Julio Cesar has not played a real match since last April and then he has a very high salary, too high for us."
