Manchester clubs set to battle it out for the signing of Ezequiel Garay

Manchester United and Manchester City are preparing to fight it out for the signing of Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay at the end of the season.

The Premier League champions were keen on pursuing the player's services in the summer, until the club's new manager David Moyes pulled out of the deal.


Manchester United are still having an interest in the Argentine International and his refusal to sign a contract extension with Primeira giants Benfica has alerted rivals Manchester City.


The Mirror reports that Citizens manager Manuel Pellegrini had sent scouts to watch the 27-year-old, and having received positive reports on his performances, the club are are keen on signing the £18m-rated centre-back during the winter transfer window.
