Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Thibault Courtois was yesterday named the La Liga goalkeeper of 2013 and immediately after receiving the award told reporters that he is happy to stay in Spain for the forseeable future. Courtois is reportedly stalling on a new contract offer from Chelsea.

The Belgian international goalkeeper has had several opportunities to put pen to paper on a fresh deal at Stamford Bridge but has so far failed to sign the deal. According to reports, Chelsea have offered the player a new deal until 2019 but the keeper is biding his time as he decides what to do when his contract expires in 18 months time.

The talented shot stopper has been rewarded for a series of stunning displays as Atletico Madrid's number 1 with the receipt of the Spanish league's top goalkeeping award. Courtois had been signed as a replacement for David De Gea, who joined Manchester United back in 2011. Since then, Courtois has impressed with a series of stunning displays and Chelsea remain hopeful that the Belgian will eventually be a suitable replacement for their first choice keeper, Petr Cech.
