Mark Lawrenson urges Arsenal to sign Christian Benteke
Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has urged Arsenal to sign Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke in the upcoming transfer window, as per The Mirror.
The Belgian marksman has endured a second season syndrome having failed to live up to his expectations following his contract extension with the Villans in the summer.
BBC Football pundit Mark Lawrenson believes that the Gunners could well land the Premier League title and end their long standing trophy drought, should they make the move for the Belgian star in the New Year.
"It has to be a new striker [in the January transfer window] and there is an obvious candidate staring the Gunners in the face – Aston Villa's Christian Benteke," Lawro said.
"Benteke would give Arsenal something they don't have. He is a wrecking ball If you look at the strikers in the 16 Champions League teams left, not many of them are similar to him.
"They are short, sharp types whereas Benteke is built like a heavyweight boxer."
Arsenal continue their title charge with a home fixture against Cardiff City on New Year's day.
