Liverpool to sign Chelsea star in the summer?

Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole is reportedly considered a top transfer target for Liverpool in the summer.

A report from The Metro claims that the Reds manager is keen on signing a top-class defender to provide sufficient competition to Jose Enrique for the left-back role, with the prospect of playing in the Champions League next season.

Cole's contract with the Blues looks set to expire at the end of the season, with manager Jose Mourinho showing no signs of offering a new deal to the England international. This could tempt the Reds to jump in and sign the former Arsenal man on a free transfer during the summer transfer window.

The 33-year-old has also been linked with a switch to the MLS with New York Red Bulls in recent weeks.
