La Liga side Valencia have announced the signing of German international Shkodran Mustafi from Italian club Sampdoria.

The World Cup winning star, who joined the national team in Brazil as a replacement for injured Marco Reus, has penned a five-year deal with the Mestella club for an undisclosed fee. He will undergo his medical in Spain today and will be later unveiled to the media.

The 22-year-old centre-back rose through the youth system of the Bundesliga side Hamburg, before joining Everton in 2009. After three years and zero Premier League appearances, he moved to the Serie A side in 2012 and made 51 appearances for the Genovesi club.

Mustafi has four international caps to his name, and is the second defender to have signed up with the Bats this summer, after Carlos Akapo came in from CD Numancia following the departure of veteran left-back Jeremy Mathieu to Barcelona last month.

Valencia will be hoping to improve from their eighth place finish in the league last season, when they take on Europa League champions Sevilla to kickstart their campaign on 23rd August.
