Arsenal lead race to sign Man Utd target

Arsenal are reportedly considered front-runners to sign up Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels this summer, according to The Mail.

The German international produced a string of excellent performances in Brazil that eventually helped his nation to lift the World Cup after a 24-year wait.

Hummels has been constantly associated with a move to the Premier League over the past month, with Manchester United keen on signing him up to bolster their fragile defensive setup.

However, United are yet to agree on a transfer fee for the talented centre-back, and this has opened the door for the Gunners to move for his services.

It is understood that the North London club could have sufficient funds to finance the deal following the sale of Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona.
