Liverpool closing in on former Gunner

Liverpool are understood to be on the cusp of sealing a deal for Barcelona midfielder Alex Song, according to The Metro.

The Cameroonian international joined the Catalan giants from Arsenal in the summer of 2012, but failed to live up to the expectations and was subsquently benched for much of last season.

A report from the Metro claims that the Reds could seal a deal for the talented midfielder 'within hours', while Turkish giants Galatasaray are also reckoned to have made a bid of their own.

Liverpool play hosts to Southampton in their Premier League opener on Sunday.
