Keane: a lesson learnt

Roy Keane has explained that since the 7-1 drubbing Sunderland received from Everton, he has learnt a lesson about what a team playing with confidence can do, and felt his side was 'innocent'.

"Everton looked like they could score every time they went forward," he told the Sunderland Echo.

"That's what you get when you're playing against a good team and they are high on confidence.

"We had an innocence in our football and had something of the cavalier about, us which you just can't afford when you are away from home against a quality side.

"It was a valuable lesson and the most important lessons from that game were learnt by me.

"My way of thinking for a lot of games is to be positive and to get at teams. I try to think positively, in terms of our shape, players and positions.

"My attitude has always been to try go out and win, no matter who we are playing and whether we are home or away.

"I'll perhaps have to change my mindset a bit - certainly away from home. When we go to play against the better teams, we need to change our mindset slightly."
