Campbell's agent hits out at Arsene Wenger
Joel Campbell's agent has criticised Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger for blocking his client's switch to Benfica on transfer deadline day.
The Costa Rican international has failed to cement a place in the first-team since the start of the season, and this led to the speculation that he could leave the club before the conclusion of the summer transfer window.
However, Wenger is believed to have refused to sanction Campbell's sale to Benfica, in spite of the player not being in part of his plans.
"Benfica fought until the last minute to sign Campbell but the move didn't happen because, in the last hour, Arsenal decided to keep him." Campbell's agent Joaquim Batica said.
"Wenger says he did not want to sell him. But if he is not in his plans, then why not allow him to leave?"
Campbell joined the Gunners from Saprissa in the summer of 2011.
