Arsenal favourites to sign Gonzalo Higuain

Arsenal are reportedly ahead of Liverpool in the race to secure the services of Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain in the January transfer window, according to The Star.

The former Real Madrid star had been constantly linked with a move to the Emirates in the summer of 2013, until he opted to join the Naples outfit.

However, recent reports had emerged that the talented striker is unsettled at the Serie A club, and is seeking pastures elsewhere.

The Star claims that the Gunners have opened up talks with Napoli over a potential move for the 26-year-old to the Emirates in the New Year.

The report adds that the North London outfit would have to pay a fee in the region of £31m in order to land the signature of their long-term target in the upcoming transfer window.
