Liverpool lead Pedro chase

Liverpool are apparently leading Arsenal in the race to land the signature of Barcelona forward Pedro in the January transfer window.

The Spain international is expected to leave the Catalan giants in January, as he is unlikely to get a regular starting berth following the arrival of star striker Luis Suarez from his four-month biting ban.

According to Metro, the Reds are prepared to outbid Arsenal in order to acquire the player's services in the New Year.

The Reds have struggled for goals this season, with summer signing Mario Balotelli yet to find his feet at the club. Pedro's arrival could provide the necessary thrust to bring back the form and momentum they displayed during the back end of the previous season.

Liverpool were beaten by a 1-0 scoreline by Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.
