England international Jermain Defoe is all set to sign for Sunderland having had a successful medical,.

The former Spurs striker is expected to join the Wearside outfit on a three-and-a-half year deal from Toronto FC in the next few days.

It is believed that Defoe's arrival would see Jozy Altidore move the other way on a straight-swap deal.

Defoe could be in line to face former club Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League should he be registered before 12pm on Friday.

The 32-year-old has scored 124 league goals in his playing career so far.
