Arsenal plot bid for Chris Smalling

Arsenal manage Arsene Wenger is reportedly considering a summer move to bring England international Chris Smalling to the Emirates.

Smalling has a year left in his current deal at Manchester United, and talks have stalled over a contract extension,

According to The Telegraph, Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal could allow the sale of Smalling in the summer, and the Gunners lead the chase for the player's services.

It is also understood that United would ask a fee in the region of £12m for the player's transfer.

Arsenal missed out on the 25-year-old when he join Old Trafford from Fulham in 2010 on a £10m deal.
