Southampton join Austin race

Southampton are set to battle it out with Newcastle United for the services of Charlie Austin from Queen Park Rangers this summer.

The talented striker has been in tip-top form for the R's this season, and has notched up 17 league goals till now.

The Magpies have been deemed favourites to sign up the former Burnley man at the end of the season, but The Mirror claims that the Saints are prepared to match the player's asking price.

It is also understood that the R's would be willing to sell their star asset, even if they avoid relegation at the end of the season.
