Athletic Bilbao make approach for Nacho Monreal

Athletic Bilbao are understood to have made a formal bid for Arsenal's Spanish full-back Nacho Monreal.

The Spain international struggled to get into the first-team during the early stages of his career.

However, the former Malaga star has been a key member of the first-team this season, and has been preferred ahead of Kieran Gibbs for the left-back role in the league this season.

According to Marca, the Basque outfit have lodged a summer offer of around £8m for the talented defender.

It will be interesting to see whether the Gunners opt to offload Monreal in the summer, given the lack of back-up at the left-back position.
