Newcastle United opt against Downing move

Newcastle United will not make a summer move for West Ham United winger Stewart Downing, according to reports.

The Magpies were recently linked with a move for the former Liverpool star.

However, The Chronicle cites that the Tyneside outfit have decided against a summer offer for Downing, as manager Steve McClaren feels that the player does not fit into the club's tactical setup.

Newcastle United are expected to seek fresh recruits from Ligue 1 and Eredivisie this summer.
