Jose Mourinho signs new Chelsea contract

Manager Jose Mourinho has signed a new four-year deal with Premier League champions Chelsea.

The Portuguese coach rejoined the West London giants from Real Madrid in 2013, and guided them to their first league title in five years last term.

It is thought that the deal had been agreed in principle earlier in the summer, but the Blues opted to wait until the eve on the new season to reveal the pleasing news.

"If the club is happy, I am happy. I think this is a normal thing for me to sign a new contract. It is important we have this continuity and I hope we can enjoy more success in the future - for the fans, the players and the club," he told the club's website.

Mourinho will lead his side in the title defence as they host Swansea City on the opening day of the new league season.
