Sunderland appoint Sam Allardyce

Sunderland have reportedly appointed Sam Allardyce as manager on a two-year contract.

The Black Cats were on the search for a new head coach following Dick Advocaat's decision to step down from the role last week.

It had been earlier reported that the Wearside outfit were in crunch talks with Big Sam regarding the vacant managerial post.

BBC Sport now confirms that the 60-year-old has agreed to join the Premier League side on a two-year deal.

"Of course it's a challenging job. But I hope to be able to help to bring the stability and success that everyone wants," he told reporters.

"I'm looking forward to working with the players and of course I will be relying on the help of the Sunderland supporters."

Allardyce had been out of management following the expiry of his contract at West Ham United last season.
