Man Utd ready £50m offer for Premier League defender

Manchester United are ready to start off their winter spending spree with a £50m bid for Everton star John Stones.

The 21-year-old had been the subject of multiple bids from Chelsea in the summer, but the Toffees stood firm in their desire to keep hold of their star man.

Stones has since then kept up his good form and this has caught the eye of the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United.

According to The Star, United boss Louis van Gaal is considering a £50m bid for the England international after the club was struck by a major defensive crisis.

It is also known that the Toffees may be tempted to accept the offer, given they value their player at around £43m.

United currently have the likes of Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia out through long-term injuries, while Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Matteo Darmian remain doubtful for the coming games.
