Chelsea plot raid for in-form striker

Chelsea could be set to test Leicester City's resolve by lodging a winter bid for star striker Jamie Vardy.

The England international has been in top form for the Foxes this campaign, and this has propelled them to the Champions League qualification places.

Vardy has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks, and Mourinho has added spice to the speculation by citing that the player has the ability to fit in at the best of clubs.

"He is top scorer and it is normal that big clubs want him," he told reporters.

"Even at a big club transitions are important, fast players are important, people to attack space behind defenders are important.

"Obviously in the big teams sometimes we face very low blocks where technical players to play in the box are very much needed, but I think a fast player with objective and being direct can have success everywhere."

Vardy is currently the Premier League's top scorer with 14 goals.
