Chelsea target Jose Gimenez

Chelsea look set to lodge a late bid for Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez, according to reports.

The 21-year-old was the subject of a transfer bid from Chelsea over the summer, but Atleti were not keen on his sale. Since then. the Uruguay international has been a regular at the Basque outfit, and this has caught the attention of the Blues.

According to London Evening Standard, the Premier League holders are desperate to sign a new centre-back before the transfer window slams shut on Monday.

It is added that the Blues are expected to make a renewed bid for Gimenez as they seek to climb up the table during the second half of the season.

Gimenez has made 21 appearances for his side this term.
