Manchester City want to reunite their new manager Pep Guardiola with Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcântara next season, according to The Guardian.

Guardiola gave Thiago his professional debut with FC Barcelona in 2009, and the Catalan tactician was insistent on bringing the midfielder with him when he joined Bayern Munich in 2013.

Thiago has gone on to become an integral part of the German champion's midfield, offering creativity and stability.

Despite Guardiola previously stating that he does not intend to take any Bayern players with him to City, The Guardian are today reporting that the Mancunians are keen to make Thiago one of their first major signings under their new boss.

Born in Italy to Brazilian parents -- his father Mazinho played for Fiorentina and was a World Cup winner in 1994 -- Thiago chose to represent Spain and has gone on to collect six senior caps for the 2010 world champions. It is believed that negotiations for the 24-year-old's signature would begin at around £25m.
