Atletico rekindle Gaitan interest

La Liga challengers Atletico Madrid are expected to step up their pursuit for long-term target and Benfica attacker Nicolas Gaitan. The 28-year-old had been strongly linked with a switch away from Estadio da Luz last summer but a deal failed to materialise.

Since then, the Argentina international has kept up with his form for the Primeira Liga outfit thus leading to suggestions that he could seek a fresh challenge at a bigger club next term.

Atleti have been consistently performing in the Spanish league in recent season, and according to AS, the club will come up with a fresh charge for the versatile Gaitan.

Diego Simeone's side currently find themselves second in La Liga, while still vying Barcelona for a place in this season's Champions League semi-finals.
