Liverpool make Vermaelen approach?

Liverpool are reported to have tabled a summer bid for former Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen. The Belgian international has had a difficult spell ever since his move to Barcelona from the Emirates in 2014. 

Catalan daily Sport says the 30-year-old is set to leave Camp Nou after manager Luis Enrique requested the club's hierarchy to place the centre-back on the transfer market.

Adding to this, the player's availability has caught the eye of the Reds, who have put a £7.5m offer on the table to secure his signature.

Vermaelen has been limited to just 21 appearances in the Catalan shirt mainly due to his ongoing injury troubles.
