Chelsea eying swoop for Candreva

New Chelsea boss Antonio Conte wants to add Antonio Candreva to his squad when he begins work in West London after Euro 2016, according to The Sun.

Conte is currently in charge of the Italian national team as they take part in the UEFA European Championship in France, and he apparently wants one of his Italy charges to join him at Chelsea once the competition is over.

Lazio midfielder Candreva is thought to be a target for Internazionale, with the Milanese club weighing up a €16 million bid for the 29-year-old, although a fee much closer to €30 million will be required if Lazio are to be convinced to part with one of their key men.

But Conte is hoping to steal a march on the Italians, as constructs a squad capable of carrying out his instructions and getting Chelsea back to title contention after a poor 2015-16 campaign.

While Inter have baulked at the Biancoceleste's asking price, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic will likely have no issue with forking out such a figure.

Candreva is a creative midfielder with they kind of versatility that would allow Conte the tactical flexibility he likes.

With 40 caps for the Azzurri, the former Udinese player has plenty of top-level experience, and would undoubtedly be an astute addition to Chelsea's squad, should they be able to fend off rival interest.
