Higuaín won't sign new Napoli deal

Gonzalo Higuaín's brother and agent, Nicolas Higuaín, has confirmed that the Napoli striker will not be signing a contract renewal with the Italian club.

Speaking to Clos Continental, Nicolas Higuaín said, "we’ve decided not to accept a renewal."

"The President is asking for the clause to be paid to letgo of Gonzalo, and we have the right to refuse to renew.

“We arrived at Napoli with the promise of a successful project, playing in the Champions Leagueand winning the Scudetto, with improved facilities and a desire to grow."

"It wasn’t right of the clubto ignore those commitments."

Higuaín was the top scorer in Serie A last season, breaking the long-standing divisional record with 36 goals.

His excellent form helped inspire Napoli to sencond place behind champions Juventus, and secured qualification to next season's Champions League.

Amid rumours of big-money summer moves to the likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis remained resolute in his insistance that he would not sell Higuaín, insisting that if any club wanted the star striker they would have to pay his €94 million release-clause.

Higuaín joined Napoli three years ago from Real Madrid and has scored 91 goals in 146 appearances for the Italian side.

With these latest comments, it appears that Napoli's star striker is willing to run down the remainder of his contract in order to seek a move away.
