Man Utd still interested in signing Fabinho
Manchester United manager José Mourinho has not given up hope for signing AS Monaco’s Brailian full-back Fabinho before the transfer window closes next week, according to reports.
The Manchester Evening News is reporting that Mourinho is keen to bring in Fabinho from Ligue 1 side Monaco, and they Red Devils could yet make a late move for the Brazilian international defender.
United brought in a new right-back just last summer when they signed Italian international Matteo Darmian from Torino for £14 million. But, despite some promising early performances, the 26-year-old has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford and is yet to make an appearance this season.
Instead, Mourinho has been playing Antonio Valencia in the right-back position. The Ecuadorian is a winger by trade but often filled in at right-back under Louis van Gaal. Valencia has performed well in the position thus far, but Mourinho remains keen on having a specialist right-back in the role.
Fabinho has been at Monaco for two season and has marked himself out as one of the best right-backs in Ligue 1. The 22-year-old was signed from Portuguese club Rio Ave following a successful loan spell and has gone on to become a vital first team player for the Principality club.
Fabinho is valued at around £22 million, and it is believed that Mourinho has to sell some of the surplus players in his squad before he will be able to make any more purchases, after spending around £150 million so far this summer.
