Inter Milan are closing in on the signing of Brazilian sensation a Gabriel “Gabigol” Barbosa, according to reports in Italy.

Italian journalist and transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting that Gabriel Barbosa is in Milan today to finalise a move to Inter.

The 19-year-old is known as “Gabigol” for his adeptness in front of goal in his homeland for Santos.

The young striker – who was part of the Brazil team which recently won its nation’s first ever Olympic football gold medal in Rio – was wanted by a host of Europe’s biggest teams. Barcelona, At;ético Madrid and Juventus were all said to be keeping tabs on Gabigol, while Premier League duo Manchester United and champions Leicester City were also credited with an interest.

But it now seems almost certain that Inter will win the race to sign the talented youngster, with the fee they will pay to Santos reportedly around €25 million.

The Italian club are also on the verge of signing Portuguese playmanker Joao Mario from Sporting Clube de Portugal. The 23-year-old Euro 2016 winner is also in Milan today to complete a €35 million transfer to the Nerazzurri.

In addition to their transfer business, Inter have also tied star striker Mauro Icardi down to a long term contract, fending off interest in the Argentinian hitman from Napoli, who are looking to replace Gonzalo Higuaín.
