The Hammers are set to sign Zaza for £24m

West Ham United are closing in on the £24 million signing of Juventus striker Simone Zaza, according to reports.

The Guardian is reporting that West Ham United are on the verge of signing Italian international striker Simone Zaza, with the former Sassuolo player due to undergo a medical with the East London club today.

Zaza only signed for Juventus a year ago, but was just the fourth choice striker for the Turin club last season, behind Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata. Despite being so far down the pecking order, the 25-year-old had an impressive goals to minutes Ration in Serie A with 5 goals in 19 appearances – most of which were as a substitute.

Zaza has 14 Italy caps to his name, with one goal for the Azzurri.

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic has confirmed that the arrival of Zaza will mena that the Hammers will no longer pursue a deal to sign Chelsea striker Loic Remy.

The Hammers have been in the market for a top class striker all summer, but had been frustrated in their efforts to sign their primary targets.

West Ham had bids rejected by Lyon and Marseille for Alexandre Lacazette and Michy Batshuayi earlier in the transfer window – with the latter eventually joining Chelsea.

The Hammers were also interested in signing AC Milan’s Colombian poacher Carlos Bacca, but the 29-year-old has elected to remain at the San Siro for at least another season.
