Man Utd line up Bale move with huge contract offer

Bale could earn £16.7m after tax at United

Manchester United are hoping to lure Gareth Bale to Old Trafford with a bumper salary offer, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish media outlet Ok Diario is reporting that Manchester United have contacted Gareth Bale’s agent to let it be known that they will offer the Welshman a staggering salary or £16.7 million per year after tax, if he were to consider a move away from the Bernabéu next season.

Bale has made it clear that he is happy in Spain and is keen to renew his contract with the European champions, but Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is reportedly unwilling to make Bale the highest paid player at the club.

United initially tried to sign Bale in 2013, but the former Tottenham Hotspur winger had already made his mind up about joining Madrid in a then world record £85.3 million deal.

In his three years at the Bernabéu, Bale has won two Champions Leagues while becoming one of the most important players in Zinedine Zidane’s side.

If United were to persuade Los Blancos to part ways with Bale, they would likely have to surpass the world record £89 million fee they paid to re-sign Paul Pogba from Juventus this summer.

But with the Red Devils’ recent spending, they have shown that such figures are not beyond their means, and the capture of a world class superstar such as Bale would further bolster their commercial power, as well as improving José Mourinho’s side on the pitch.
