Wood targeted as Costa alternative

Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjin have shifted their focus to Chris Wood after they were rebuffed in their attempt to sign Chelsea's Diego Costa.

The newcomers have been in talks with some of the big names in Europe, but none seem to be eager to leave their respective clubs midway through the campaign.

The likes of Edinson Cavani, Karim Benzema and Costa have all been linked with potential moves to Tianjin this month, but according to ESPN, the club will seek to find a short-term solution with Leeds United's Chris Wood.

The former Leicester City man has been in fine touch for Leeds this season, and this appears to have attracted interest from Tianjin, who are prepared to offer him a bumper wage package.

Leeds currently value Wood at around £15m, and Tianjin could match the price with ease given they were willing to pay in excess of £75m for Costa in late December.

Wood has netted 17 goals in the Championship for Leeds, who are fighting for top-flight promotion after a long period.
