Paul Scholes: Frustrated star will leave Man Utd this summer

Rooney will walk out of Old Trafford - Scholes

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has revealed that Wayne Rooney will want to leave Old Trafford amid his lack of playing time under Jose Mourinho.

The England international was left out for the fifth game in a row against Saint-Etienne as he continues to recover from a series of minor issues.

Rooney has been linked with a lucrative move to the Far East before the end of the month, and Scholes believes that his former teammate could be tempted by a fresh challenge.

"I don't know if he should go, but I think he'll want to go. Wayne is a player who wants to play football every week, whether it is a big game, small game," Scholes told BT Sport.

Rooney, who has started just eight league games this campaign, is likely to miss out on the EFL final against Southampton on Sunday with Mourinho insisting that the player needs more time to recuperate from his recent tooth surgery.

The 31-year-old is currently the club's all-time goalscorer with 250 goals having surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton's through a stunning free-kick versus Stoke City last month.
