Lukaku still stay irrespective of contract situation - Koeman

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has insisted that he is not worried about Romelu Lukaku's decision to snub a fresh contract.

The Belgium international was widely to tipped to extend his stay at Goodison after his agent Mino Raiola admitted that his client deal was '99.9999999' percent done.

However, the 23-year-old has since abandoned talks over the proposed extension with the lack of success in terms of trophies urging him to consider his future.

Lukaku's current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2019, and Koeman appears to aim a dig at the Belgian by citing that he would not have joined the club had it lacked the ambition.

He adds that the decision will be left to the club's hierarchy but Lukaku may have to eventually honour his contract, should he persist with his reluctance to extend terms at Goodison.

Lukaku, who recently became Everton's all-time Premier League goalscorer, has turned down a fresh five-year deal on wages in upwards of £130,000-a-week.

He is currently the joint top-scorer with Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane on 19 goals for the Premier League campaign.
