Philippe Coutinho linked with shock move to Barcelona
Barcelona are reportedly lining up a shock swoop for midfielder Philippe Coutinho as they seek to find a long-term successor to Andres Iniesta.
The World Cup winner currently has just a year left on his existing contract, and it is understood that he could part ways with Barca for a fresh challenge abroad - preferably in the MLS.
According to The Sun, the Catalan giants are keeping a close eye on the progress of Coutinho, who they see as a potential candidate to replace Iniesta in the future.
Coutinho inked a fresh five-year deal earlier in the year after being made the Reds highest earner, but this has not deterred Barcelona's pursuit of the exciting playmaker.
Despite dropping off his early season form, Coutinho has managed to play an influential role since his injury return, and he remains key to the Reds' chances of clinching a top-four position for the campaign.
Coutinho currently has no release clause present in his current deal, and this puts Liverpool in a comfortable position irrespective of Barcelona's interest.
