Roma plan move for Man Utd full-back

Darmian heading for Serie A return?

AS Roma are prepared to lure Manchester United star Matteo Darmian back to the Serie A during the summer transfer window.

The Italy international had been tipped to leave the Red Devils at the start of the campaign after he was dropped in favour of the likes of Luke Shaw and Daley Blind for the left-back position.

However, moving into November, the former Torino man regained his spot as a first-team regular, which has since lost due to the emergence of Marcus Rojo.

Rojo and Phil Jones had evolved into the perfect centre-back partnership during the same period, and the injury comebacks of both Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling has seen Rojo being pushed to his preferred spot on the left side of the defence.

Darmian was deemed to be house-hunting in Milan earlier in the campaign, but according to The Star, it is the Giallorossi, who are prepared to tempt him back to the Italian capital.

The 27-year-old joined the Red Devils from Torino for an initial sum of around £14m, and United would expect a similar fee to let go of the Italian, who still has two years left on his contract.
