Leonardo Bonucci off to Chelsea?

Bonucci back on Blues radar

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has made initial contact with the representatives of Leonardo Bonucci over a summer move to Stamford Bridge.

The Italy international has been a long-term servant for Juventus, but his future could be doubtful beyond this season following a rift with manager Max Allegri for which he has apologised.

According to The Star, Conte is lining up a reunion with the central defender with whom he has worked at both Juventus and the Italian national side.

Conte has found the perfect combination in defence with Cesar Azplicueta, David Luiz and Gary Cahill occupying the back three, but he is still in the search for further reinforcements ahead of European commitments for next season.

Bonucci has come close to sealing a move to the Premier League last summer, but the ill health of his son urged him to stay put in Turin for further treatment.

He is currently a regular in the heart of the Old Lady backline, but the emergence of Daniele Rugani and Mattia Caldara could see the club cash in on his services in the summer.

Chelsea are likely to table an offer in excess of £50m to prise away the 29-year-old centre-back from the Serie A holders.
