Manchester United target has already picked shirt number

James Rodriguez news

Rodriguez may be the first signing for Manchester United in what looks to be a busy summer

Manchester United are one of a number of teams in pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez, and the Red Devils have edged closer to securing the services of the Colombia star, who has already picked out his shirt number at Old Trafford.

Despite appearing and scoring in recent games for Real Madrid, Rodriguez has not been happy with the amount of game time that he has been given at the Bernabeu this season. With interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs, Rodriguez looks set to leave Spain this summer.

Don Balon reports today that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has given his approval for the transfer, and wants to get a deal completed as soon as possible.

The same report also claims that Rodriguez is excited by the prospect of a move to the Premier League club, and had already picked out the shirt number that he would like to wear. His selected number is that of current captain, Wayne Rooney, number ten.

Normally coming into a club and requesting the captain's shirt number would not go down well, but the speculation about Rooney's future with United refuses to go away, and he could be on his way out of the Manchester club at the end of the season, leaving the number ten vacant.
