Barcelona lining up shock move for Man Utd midfielder
Spanish champions Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on signing Manchester United's Ander Herrera amid the uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old has been rock solid in the Red Devils midfield this season, and this has urged the club's hierarchy to discuss a potential deal beyond the summer of 2018.
Herrera had initially struggled to cement himself as a regular in the United setup, but Jose Mourinho has found a way to satisfy the Spaniard by offering him a role alongside Michael Carrick at the centre of the park.
According to The Star, the Catalan giants are prepared to lure Herrera to the Camp Nou with his existing contract due to expire in 14 months' time.
Herrera has yet to receive a suitable offer to extend his United stay, and a final decision could be dependent on whether the club qualify for next season's Champions League.
Should this not happen, United could be willing to offload their star performer as they would not want to lose him on a free next year.
Herrera, who earned his maiden Spain cap in November 2016, is being earmarked as a long-term replacement for World Cup winner Andres Iniesta.
