Manchester City are apparently close to wrapping up the signature of Monaco star Fabinho ahead of this summer's transfer window.

The Brazilian footballer has been in fine touch for the Principality outfit this season after having switched to a central midfield role from his usual right-back position.

According to The Mirror, the Citizens have an edge over Manchester United in the pursuit of the versatile star with Pep Guardiola willing to match the player's £25m price tag.

Guardiola is desperate to recruit a new right-back to his ranks, and it is suggested that Fabinho is the prime option to replace outgoing duo Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta.

Fabinho, who is currently contracted to Monaco until 2021, is understood to have a soft spot towards the Etihad outfit with his father himself admitting his son's ambition.

“We like Manchester United and Mourinho’s work, but we have a soft spot for Manchester City.” he said.

The 23-year-old has earned just four caps with the Brazilian national side to date, and this is something he could seek to improve on with the World Cup coming along in a year's time.
