Zlatan Ibrahimovic teased a return for the Europa League final

Ibrahimovic posted a video on Instagram yesterday and hinted at a possible return for the Europa League final against Ajax next Wednesday.

Ibrahimovic sent social media into a frenzy with a video he posted on Instagram, captioned "Ready for the final".

The Swedish striker completely tore his anterior cruciate ligament and partially tore his posterior cruciate ligament in the quarter-final win against Anderlecht in the Europa League last month. Jose Mourinho feared the worst for Ibrahimovic and early reports circulated that the injury could be career-ending.

The Swede was quickly flown to the United States to the Pittsburg Medical Centre to receive the best treatment he could. His surgeon, the renowned Dr Freddie Fu, was very optimistic following a successful surgery. He said in an interview with the South China Morning Post, "He's in superb shape in all things. Healthy morphology, the quality of the bone and muscle, everything is as good as you can possibly see."

Dr Freddie Fu went on to say that Zlatan is "one of the top athletes I’ve ever touched" and expects him to play football at the very top level for a number of years to come.

Despite the positive news and Ibrahimovic's hint on social media, it is unlikely that he will return for the cup final as the average time to fully recover from an ACL tear is about six months.

The Manchester United striker had been in devastating form before the injury, scoring an incredible 28 goals in 46 games.
