Fernando Torres closes in on shock move
After his contract with La Liga side Atletico Madrid expired at the end of the campaign, Spanish striker Fernando Torres has entered advanced talks to sign for Mexican club Queretaro.
Torres scored ten goals for Diego Simeone's team last season, in what was his third spell with the Madrid club.
Atletico waved goodbye to their iconic Vicente Calderon stadium at the end of last season and it appears that they will also be waving goodbye to one of their iconic players too.
ESPN reports that Torres is in advanced talks to join Queretaro and would join the club at the beginning of September when teams in the Mexican league are next able to sign international players.
The club are currently sitting 15th in the Mexican Liga MX and will have to improve their form drastically if they are to avoid relegation at the end of the season.
Fernando Torres would not be the first high profile player to join Queretaro, as Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho also joined the club towards the end of his career in 2014.
