Sunderland keen on signing Man United goalkeeper
Championship club Sunderland are targeting a move for Manchester United's Sam Johnstone after having agreed on a deal in principle to sell Jordan Pickford.
Pickford is reportedly on the cusp of sealing a £30m move to Everton following his standout performances for the Black Cats during the previous campaign.
According to The Mail, the Black Cats have already earmarked a potential replacement for Pickford with United's Sam Johnstone leading their transfer wishlist.
Johnstone, 24, has not quite made the ranks with the Old Trafford outfit, and he is currently the fourth-choice goalkeeper behind David de Gea, Sergio Romero and Joel Pereira.
He spent the second half of last season on loan with fellow Championship club Aston Villa, where he bagged 21 appearances to his name.
United are already stocked well in the goalkeeping department, and the club's hierarchy would be willing to accept a £5m fee in order to part way with their former academy graduate.
Johnstone has not made a single competitive appearance for United since his first-team promotion in 2011, and he now looks set to pursue a fresh challenge in a lower division in order to prove himself.
