Costa set for Atleti return?

Atletico Madrid will reportedly make a formal offer to re-sign Diego Costa, who is deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea.

The La Liga outfit will most probably discuss a January arrangement for the striker as they are not permitted to sign any players in the summer unlike Barcelona a couple of years ago.

Atleti are currently under a transfer ban for breaking rules protecting under-age players, and this will not be allowed to sign any player until the turn of the year.

According to The Mirror, the Spanish giants are still keen on luring Costa to their new Wanda Metropolitano stadium, but for this, the player may have to stay put at Chelsea for another six months.

Diego Simeone's side will hope to convince Conte to offer him some playing time during the period while keeping him out of the Champions League squad in order to prevent him from being cup-tied for the latter stage of the competition.

A temporary move to AC Milan remains the other option on Atleti's radar, but the Rossoneri are not quite willing to match Costa's £185,000 a week wages.

Atletico Madrid will offer an initial £26m to Chelsea with performance-based add-ons covering up the remaining £6m.
