Tottenham line up bid for Man Utd defender
Tottenham Hotspur are plotting an attempt to sign Manchester United defender Chris Smalling following the arrival of Victor Lindelof at Old Trafford.
The Sweden international signed for the Red Devils on a four-year contract earlier in the week, and this could trigger Smalling's sale from the club.
According to The Mail, Smalling could be the subject of interest from Spurs boss Pochettino as he eyes the perfect competitor to first-team choice centre-back Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.
Eric Dier has performed his duties fairly well alongside the Belgian pair, but he could be offload in the summer with United mulling over a £50m move.
Meanwhile, the Europa League holders could also offer Smalling as makeweight in proposed deal to prise away Dier from north London.
Smalling, who was United's 2015/16 Player of the Year, faces an uncertain future beyond the summer following his regular fitness issues last season.
Spurs, on the other hand, are hoping to bolster their ranks further ahead of next season in order to progress further in the Champions League.
