Manchester United advance efforts to sign Benfica defender
Manchester United are looking at the prospect of making Benfica's Nelson Semedo their second signing of the summer transfer window.
The Portugal international enjoyed League and Cup success with the Primeira Liga giants last term, and his performances have gained the attention of United.
Apart from his excellent athleticism, Semedo also contributed eight goals from the right-back spot last season, and he is being seen as the perfect heir to Antonio Valencia.
Valencia, who is approaching his 32nd birthday, is regarded as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League, but Mourinho is still eyeing a move for Semedo, who is more sound on the defensive side of things.
United pursued the services of Victor Lindelof from Benfica earlier in the month, but the Swede is likely to be utilised at the heart of the defence alongside Eric Bailly.
According to O Jogo, United are willing to offer a £30m fee for Semedo, but the deal is being stalled for now with Benfica hoping to acquire at least £35m from the transfer.
Apart from Semedo, United are also eyeing a third player from the Estádio da Luz with Mourinho a keen admirer of Brazilian forward Anderson Talisca.
