Benzema commits future to Real Madrid

Karim Benzema has ended speculation over his Real Madrid future by extending his contract by a further two years. The new deal will keep the Frenchman at the Bernabeu until the summer of 2021.

Benzema had been strongly linked with a Los Blancos exit with a report from Don Balon suggesting that he could join long-term suitors Arsenal next summer.

However, Zinedine Zidane's side have now put a stop to the rumours by committing the Frenchman to a new four-year contract. Benzema is the fourth Los Blancos player to sign a fresh deal this month following contract announcements for Isco, Marcelo and Dani Carvajal last week.

A statement from Real Madrid's official website read: "Real Madrid C. F. and Karim Benzema have agreed an extension to the player's contract, binding him to the club until 30 June 2021."

Benzema joined the La Liga holders from Lyon back in the summer of 2009, and he has since notched 181 goals in 371 outings across all competitions.

The 29-year-old has received a lot of stick for his lack of goals of late, but Real Madrid have firmed his position at the club by placing a staggering €1billion release clause in his fresh contract.
