Conte hopes to have Morata back soon

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is reportedly hopeful that Alvaro Morata has not suffered a serious hamstring injury during his side's disappointing 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday evening.

The Spain international lasted for just 35 minutes into the game before he was replaced by Willian, who did not make much of an impression.

The Premier League holders lost by a 1-0 scoreline to Pep Guardiola's side, but their performance was pretty much average despite playing on their home turf.

As a result, the Blues have now dropped points against the likes of Burnley, Arsenal and Manchester City at home, and they are now six behind the Citizens, who lead the standings.

Speaking to BT Sport, Conte put blame on the European schedule in midweek which affected the Blues' performance versus the Premier League favourites.

He also hoped that Morata has not sustained a serious damage on his hamstring, but he is nevertheless proud of managing his players in west London.

"It was a tough game but we know very well that Manchester City are a big team and it's very difficult to play this type of game," he said.

"I hope it is not a serious injury for Morata. It is his hamstring but we don't know if it is a serious problem. We move on, we rest and I am very proud to be the coach of these players."

Morata has made a bright start to his Blues career with six goals in seven Premier League outings, and a long-term absence could potentially hurt the club's chances of retaining the title this term.
