Manchester United may have to hand huge pay rise to Marouane Fellaini

Manchester United will have to offer a significant pay rise to Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini if they are to convince him to stay beyond next summer.

The 29-year-old has been one of the many standout performers for United this term after having recently established himself at the heart of the midfield.

Fellaini is currently on a £130,000-a-week package with the Mancunian giants, and according to The Sun, he will require a huge salary increase in order to commit his long-term future at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho has spoken fondly of Fellaini since he replaced the injured Paul Pogba in the lineup, and the Portuguese is desperate to prolong the midfielder's stay for a couple more years at least.

A United insider told The Sun: "There is a fear that Marouane will only stay here with a major pay increase. He is on good money already, but feels he has a worth.

"They are in a difficult spot with him out of contract next summer. The club already took out their 12-month option to extend his deal back in January, so it's proving difficult."

Fellaini has enjoyed one of his best scoring seasons in the Red Devils shirt, scoring four goals across all competitions. The likes of Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are said to be after Fellaini's signature, and he could potentially discuss a pre-contract with a foreign club in January.
